Monsoon Study We are very pleased to announce that award winning professional artist and teacher Cody DeLong of Arizona is offering a one day plein air workshop "Creating the Wow Factor" on Saturday September 20th. This is a wonderful opportunity to enhance your techniques or even learn something new prior to the start of the competition. For further information and registration, please email Cody at cody@codydelong.com or visit his website www.codydelong.com.

Cody DeLong is renowned for his unique and original paintings where he captures a wonderful sense of light in his landscape paintings and a beautiful atmosphere in his signature skyscapes and sunset paintings. Growing up in a rural midwestern town, Cody was instilled at an early age with a solid work ethic and an affinity for nature and all its beauty.

A natural artist, Cody has been drawing and painting since he was five and is continually inspired by the desert, which has been his home for most of his adult life.

The Lair
"Each painting I do begins with an idea, something that's inspired me. I try to distill this in my mind until I've achieved an almost meditative state where I can explore which compositions, color harmonies, etc., will best serve my idea. The balance I'm searching for lies in creating a work that is technically proficient while preserving that which fueled my passion in the first place. The result hopefully will provide the viewer with a perspective they have not seen before."

A passionate student of art, Cody has studied at the Loveland Academy of Fine Arts, as well as the Scottsdale Artists School, where, in 2003, he was awarded a merit-based scholarship. In 2004, the Oil Painters of America, of which Cody is a member, selected him as that year's Shirl Smithson Scholarship winner.

Cody on outdoor studies:
“Painting outdoors is an excellent way to sharpen the artist's perception of nature's subtle and varied moods. Rapidly changing light conditions offer only a brief working window (usually two hours or less), forcing the artist to select and simplify, to move from one decision to the next quickly and boldly, and to experiment with colors and design.“
